Mr. Vijaya Kumar Puspowanam is a seasoned port and logistics professional with over two decades of experience in the maritime and supply chain industry. He began his career with the Westports Group in January 2000 as a Gate Operations Executive, and progressively advanced through various departments, showcasing his versatility, strategic insight, and leadership capabilities.
In January 2008, he was appointed Head of Container Marketing, and by 2010, he had expanded his portfolio to include oversight of the Conventional Business and Customer Service IT. His continued contributions led to his promotion as General Manager, Marketing and Conventional in January 2017, where he played a pivotal role in enhancing Westports’ market presence and operational efficiency.
In June 2022, Mr. Vijaya embarked on a new venture as the Managing Director of TALKE Logistics Malaysia Sdn Bhd, a subsidiary of Alfred Talke Logistics Services of Germany. He was instrumental in establishing the company’s Malaysian operations and led the development of a state-of-the-art chemical warehouse at Pulau Indah, setting new standards in chemical logistics infrastructure.
He returned to Westports in May 2023 as Deputy Chief Executive Officer, where he was entrusted with leading critical departments including Container Operations, Container Planning, Container Marketing, Information Technology, Maintenance & Repair, Safety, and the Security. His leadership culminated in his promotion to Chief Executive Officer and Executive Director of Westports Malaysia effective 1st February 2025, with expanded responsibilities that now include Human Resources, Engineering and the Conventional Business.
Mr. Vijaya holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration (International Business) from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia. He is also a proud alumnus of Harvard Business School, having completed the Senior Management Development Programme in 2004 (organized by the Harvard Business School Alumni Club of Malaysia) and the prestigious General Management Programme (GMP) in Boston, USA, in 2024. He was awarded the Malaysian Skills Advanced Diploma in Corporate Leadership by Department of Skills Development. Ministry of Human Resources in 2025.
In addition to his executive roles, Mr. Vijaya served as a Board Member of Port Klang Cruise Terminal until January 2025 and was recently appointed as the Alternate Chairperson of MyMahir FSTC for the Logistics and Transportation Sector under TalentCorp, contributing to national talent development initiatives.
