Tommaso Tabaglio is a senior scientist affiliated with A*STAR in Singapore, known for his work in molecular biology and cancer research. He completed his academic training at Università degli Studi di Milano (MSc), Università degli Studi di Padova (BSc), and the National University of Singapore (PhD in Biochemistry under Prof. Ernesto Guccione), building a strong foundation in life sciences and biotechnology.
His PhD research focused on RNA biology and splicing mechanisms, which remain central themes in his 10-year long scientific career.
Tabaglio’s research explores the regulation and modulation of RNA splicing and its role in cancer cell fitness and therapy. He has contributed to several important publications, including studies on the malignant role of MDM4 and MBNL1 in modulating splicing, and the use of splice-switching antisense oligonucleotides (SSOs) to modulate T cell function for immunotherapy applications. His work has been cited more than 900 times and reflects a solid impact in the fields of RNA biology and cancer research.
In addition to his academic work, Dr. Tabaglio co-founded Immunoa Pte. Ltd., a startup focused on developing antisense oligonucleotide-based approaches to improve immunotherapy outcomes. His role in the company as CSO involved guiding scientific strategy and applying his expertise in RNA splicing to therapeutic development.
Within the research community, Dr. Tabaglio was recognized as Mentor of the Year 2024 at the Institute of Molecular and Cell Biology (IMCB), the oldest and largest research institute of A*STAR Singapore. This award acknowledges his contributions to supporting and guiding early-career scientists in one of Singapore’s leading biomedical research institutes.
