Dr Abdul Jalil joined the Singapore Police Force in 1993 as a Senior Police Officer, later moving to the Internal Security Department in 2000, where he served in investigation, operations, policy and training roles. In 2020, he was seconded to Singapore Food Agency to establish the Joint Operations Division, which oversees operations, management and investigations of all food safety issues. He became Assistant Chief Executive Officer (Operations) in July 2022, taking responsibility for all operations and licensing matters within SFA. As of January 2026, Dr Jalil was appointed Director-General (Food Security) and Assistant Chief Executive Officer, overseeing planning, communications and food security functions at SFA.
