Container Shipping experienced unprecedented disruption and turmoil characterised by a period of extremes with space and equipment shortages and freight rates soaring to record level from 2020 to 2022. Whilst the threat of sudden disruptions and turmoil appear to have passed, that doesn’t mean the market will return to the pre-pandemic status quo.
Rates have dropped significantly from its record levels seen in 2021 and 2022, however carriers have continued to implement Blank Sailings to manage capacity leading to an artificial reduction in space.
Shippers have also been exposed to significant risks in both rates and reliability in recent times.
